Our second Fire Ops 101 event on Friday, May 8, 21015 was a huge success. Over 50 members of Local 2000 gave their time to provide elected and appointed officials from Howard County a chance to experience first-hand what it is like to be a fire fighter and EMS provider.
We would like to thank Chief Butler and his entire staff for their support of this effort. We would also like to thank County Executive Allan Kittleman, Deputy Chief of Staff J-Tab Siddiqui, County Councilman Jon Weinstein, State Delegates Ed Kasemeyer and Guy Guzzone, State Delegates Trent Kittleman, Eric Ebersole, Dr. Terri Hill, Dr. Clarence Lam, and Vanessa Atterbeary, and Aide Chelsea Leigh Amason for spending the day with us and participating. Sarah Caldwell from WBAL-TV also attended and put together a news story shown on the 5 PM news that night.
The participants worked in teams of three, with each participant being assigned a Local 2000 member as a "Shadow." The teams rotated through four scenarios: Interior Structure Fire, EMS scenario with simulated cardiac arrest (complete with fake vomit), Auto Extrication, and Auto Fire.
The Baltimore Sun's Jon Sham also stopped by and produced a video for their website; link here
Photos will be added to our site over the next several days and weeks.
